Sophomore Illini Center Meyers Leonard
has declared that he will forgo his junior and senior seasons to enter the NBA draft this summer.
Leonard improved greatly in this past year, going from averaging 2.1 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.4 blocks per game his freshman year to 13.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game his sophomore year. He led the Big Ten Conference in blocks, and was third in rebounding and field goal percentage. Leonard was also 12th in the NCAA in field goal percentage and had eight double doubles and scored in double digits 21 times in his sophomore season. ESPN draft analyst Chad Ford has Meyers Leonard ranked 23rd in the 2012 draft class.
Leonard will finish the spring semester before the NBA Draft in July.
