The Illini baseball team outscored the Mississippi Valley State Devils 34-11 in this weekend’s three game set, and took all three games improving their record to 15-10.
In the final game of the series, freshman pitcher John Kravetz led the team with 7 strong innings, allowing only one unearned run and three hits. Most impressively he only threw 82 pitches through those seven innings and did not allow any walks.
The offense helped out their pitcher by getting ahead early in the game with three runs in the second inning and another in the third. Justin Parr’s solo homerun in the second was followed by an RBI double to left by Kelly Norris-Jones and an RBI triple by Bill Charvat. The Illini answered the Devils lone run in the game with their own in the bottom of the third when Justin Parr came up big again, this time hitting a double to left center, and later scoring on Brandon Hohl’s single up the middle.
The Fighting Illini return to action tomorrow and hope to make it five straight victories as they take on Bradley, who they defeated just five days ago.
