In today’s edition of the Week of Recruits series, Writing Illini takes a look at Devin Langford. Langford hails from Alabama and surprised many when he chose Illinois over instate schools Alabama and Auburn, among others, both of whom were trying hard to snag the small forward.

Strengths: Langford is a good shooter with a high basketball IQ that has impressed all those who have had the chance to see him play. While he is not the strongest player, he is good at cutting into the lane and scoring.
Areas for Improvement: If he can increase his strength, Langford could be a premier Big Ten player. Also, while he is a decent shooter, He does need to improve his shot from beyond the arc.
Early Thoughts: Langford may turn out to be a steal for Illinois down the road. While not many schools in the Big Ten went after him, he was a hot commodity in the SEC and he surprised some by leaving his home state. At Illinois, he has the chance to redshirt for a year to build some muscle and come in as a redshirt freshman and make some noise.
