The 2010-2011 NFL season is officially over and for the first time in 5 years, a former Illini does not have a new championship ring. Rashard Mendenhall and the Pittsburgh Steelers were unable to overcome an early deficit and fell to the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl.
Running Back Rashard Mendenhall
Mendenhall had a rough game against a tough Packers defense. He managed 63v yards and a touchdown on the ground and another 7 yards receiving, but he had a costly fumble in the fourth quarter as the Steelers were trying to mount a comeback. Overall Mendenhall had another fantastic season, rushing for a career high 1273 yards and 13 touchdowns.
With a lot of turmoil already building between players and owners over contract issues, the 2011-2012 season is not a forgone conclusion. However, the NFL Draft will occur on April 28th, and with several Illini projected to go high in the draft, it should be worth watching. Writing Illini will recap how the Illini fared and where they went in the draft. Until then.
